Al Jazeera Channel featured on its news channel, special reports, and Al Jazeera English, Empowering Women in the Atlas as an innovative educational initiative aimed at empowering rural women through education.
Indeed, EWA was conceived and launched by Lamia Bazir in order to provide illiterate rural women with the right to access knowledge and tools that would help them improve their enterprises and reinforce their leadership. In this report, Lamia Bazir explains that “illiteracy is not a barrier to education because education goes beyond letters and numbers, education is empowerment”.
For reminder, EWA offered 100 women from the Atlas mountains the opportunity to access university for the first time and to benefit from workshops and trainings in project management, basic accounting, marketing, entrepreneurship, environment, and communication. These courses were conducted in the local language moroccan dialect and tamazight. Lamia Bazir explained “this program aims to offer women in the rural world with equal attention and knowledge than urban women entrepreneurs, and is in a form a second chance for rural women who dropped out from school at an early age to reconsuer their right to education.”
